CRPD Dog Park Rules 🐾

Help us keep the Carmichael Dog Park safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone!

• Dogs must be licensed and current on vaccinations.
• Aggressive or unruly dogs are not permitted. Please remove your dog at the first sign of aggression.
• Dogs must be leashed when entering and exiting the dog park.
• Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs and placing waste in designated containers.
• Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Bringing small children or infants into the dog park is discouraged.
• No food, smoking, tobacco, or alcoholic beverages are permitted inside the dog park.
• The Small Dog Park is reserved for dogs 20 pounds or less.
• The off-leash area is for dogs, their handlers, and accompanying guests only.
• All visitors use the dog park at their own risk and are expected to follow posted park rules.

Please be courteous, stay attentive to your dog, and help us create a safer place for every pup and person who visits.

Bring the Right Pup

Not every dog loves the dog park—and that’s perfectly okay.

Dog parks are busy, social environments. Before visiting, consider whether your dog is comfortable around unfamiliar dogs, people, movement, and group play.

If your dog seems nervous, overwhelmed, overly reactive, or just isn’t having fun, heading home early can be the best choice.

👀 Stay With Your Dog

Your dog may be off leash, but you’re still on duty.

Keep an eye on your pup, watch body language, and stay close enough to step in if play becomes too intense.

The dog park works best when people are actively supervising instead of checking out.

🚪 Give the Gates Some Breathing Room

The entrance can be one of the busiest parts of any dog park.

Avoid letting dogs crowd around the gate when someone is entering or leaving. Giving newcomers space can help reduce excitement, stress, and accidental escapes.

🐕 Choose the Appropriate Play Area

Please pay attention to posted signage and use the appropriate dog park area for your pup.

Separating dogs appropriately can help create a safer and more comfortable environment, particularly for smaller dogs.

💩 Scoop the Poop

A classic. A necessary classic. 😂

Please clean up after your dog every time and help keep the park pleasant for the next pup through the gate. 

 

🎾 What Should You Bring?

A few basics can make your visit easier:

• Leash for entering and leaving the park
• Waste bags, just in case a station is empty
• Water for yourself and your pup when needed
• Collar and current identification
• A little patience if the park is especially busy
• Your attention—arguably the most important thing you can bring

You may want to think twice before bringing high-value toys, food, or treats into a crowded play area, since those can sometimes create competition between dogs.

🐶 What Does Good Play Look Like?

Dog play can be loud, fast, and a little ridiculous.

Healthy play often includes:

• Loose, relaxed body language
• Play bows
• Taking turns chasing
• Brief breaks in play
• Dogs choosing to return to one another
• Both dogs appearing comfortable and engaged

If one dog repeatedly tries to escape, hide, or disengage—or play starts becoming tense—it’s a good time to interrupt and give everyone a break.

❤️ Be a Good Dog Park Human

The dogs aren’t the only ones sharing the space.

A few friendly habits go a long way:

Be courteous. Communicate. Give people and dogs space. Pick up after your pup. Respect posted rules. And remember that everybody’s dog is different.

You don’t have to become best friends with everyone at the park.

Although eventually you may know six dogs by name and still refer to their owners exclusively as “Luna’s dad” and “the lady with Moose.” That counts as community around here. 😂

The Carmichael Recreation and Park District (CRPD) establishes the official rules governing use of the Carmichael Dog Park.

Dog Park Friends Carmichael provides community education and friendly park-use reminders. Official park operations, rules, maintenance, and enforcement remain under the authority of the Carmichael Recreation and Park District.
